IOIO-OTG for Android with USB OTG Cable

The IOIO-OTG board facilitates easy and rapid connection of electronic circuits to a PC or an Android device. You can connect the IOIO-OTG to the Android/PC via USB or Bluetooth, and power it (not mandatory if used in USB device mode). The board has 46 I/O pins for linking your circuits, which can also be powered from the IOIO-OTG. You can control the I/O pins by programming in Java and utilizing the high-level API and provided libraries.

The board has an automatic detection feature for its role in the connection, but a switch can be utilized to force it into host mode. The IOIO-OTG board can be upgraded using the IOIODude application without the need for a programmer, and it frequently releases new application firmware. The latest version of the board has addressed previous issues such as IC power failure and the absence of a decoupling cap on the AVIN pin, making it a better and more reliable product.

The IOIO-OTG board features a JST connector for attaching a LiPo battery, pin headers for voltage and ground access, and a trimpot for regulating the charge current when acting as a host. A USB-A to micro-A OTG cable is included in the kit for connecting your Android device to the micro-USB port on the board, using the cable that came with your device.

This kit does not require any soldering and is ideal for individuals with intermediate programming skills, although motivated beginners are welcome. Basic knowledge of programming and electronic hardware is recommended.

1. What is IOIO-OTG Cable?

  •  IOIO-OTG is a development board that acts like a bridge that connects apps on your PC or Android device to low-level peripherals such as GPIO, PWM, ADC, I2C, SPI, and UART. App-level libraries help you write control code for these low-level peripherals, just like you would write any other Java app.

2. How to use IOIO-OTG Cable?

  • There are several ways to connect  IOIO to your Java app. When the app is running on an Android device,  IOIO-OTG acts as a USB host and provides charging power to the device (i.e. IOIO-OTG requires its own power supply). When your app runs on a Windows, Linux, or OSX computer, IOIO-OTG assumes device mode and appears as a virtual serial port. In device mode, the host can power the IOIO-OTG! After plugging in the USB Bluetooth dongle, the IOIO-OTG appears as a Bluetooth serial connection, enabling wireless connectivity. A switch on the board can be used to force the IOIO-OTG into host mode, but in most cases leaving the board in "auto" mode will recognize its role in the connection.

3. What is the price of IOIO-OTG Cable and Development Board in India?

  • The price of the IOIO-OTG Cable and Development Board for Android and Windows on the Robocraze Website is approx. 2140/- INR. The kit comes with a USB-A to micro-A OTG cable and IOIO board.
