  • Block time, distance adjustable

Microwave Radar Human Body Sensor

The Microwave Radar Human Body Sensor has a Transmission signal processing control chip rcwl-9196. This human body sensor has a Wide operating voltage range of 4.0-28V.

The RCWL-0516 Microwave Radar Sensor is a mini doppler radar sensor module equipped with supporting DC 4-28V wide voltage. It is an alternative to the PIR sensor and uses in many security alarms system. This is a mini radar motion sensor module equipped with RCWL-9196 chip based on the doppler microwave induction technology. It will automatically continuously output the high-level TTL signal when there is motion with adjustable delay time and sensitivity. It is perfect for DIY microwave motion sensor light switch, human sensor toys, smart security devices, etc.

The output of the RCWL-0516 sensor is analog and can be connected to an analog input of a microcontroller and sampled by an ADC. The output voltage is roughly proportional to the distance between the sensor and the object. However, since it relies on a Doppler radar system, signal reflections from other nearby objects can interfere with the measurement, making it less reliable and accurate than other kinds of sensors. The reflections from different kinds of objects can also influence measurements, for example, metallic objects have a stronger reflection than plastic objects.

1. What is a microwave radar sensor?

  • The Microwave Radar Sensor module has been designed as an alternative to the common PIR motion sensors widely used in burglar alarms and security lights. This sensor, like the PIR sensor, detects only movements within its detection range.

2. How do microwave body detectors work?

  • A microwave radar sensor uses electromagnetic radiation. It sends out waves that are reflected by the receiver. The reflected waves are analyzed by the receiver. If there is an object moving in the room, these waves are going to be altered.

3. What is the difference between a PIR sensor and a microwave sensor?

  • A microwave radar sensor is an active sensor as it emits a microwave signal for detection. PIR sensor is a passive sensor as it senses infrared signals emitted by various objects including the human body.

4. Do microwave sensors work through glass?

  • Microwave sensors can detect movement through nonmetal materials like glass and even thin walls. This gives more options for installing the sensor because it can be located out of sight or inside the luminaire.
