1. What is a Rotary Encoder Module?
- A rotary encoder, also called a shaft encoder, is an electro-mechanical device that converts the angular position or motion of a shaft or axle to analog or digital output signals. An incremental rotary encoder can measures distance, speed & position.
2. Where are rotary encoders used?
- The Rotary Encoder Module Brick Sensor is a rotary input device that indicates how much the knob has been rotated AND what direction it is rotating in. This module is used in Robotic-arm controller, Servo and Stepper motor control, and Precise motor movement.
3. How do the rotary encoder modules work?
- The encoder consists of a disc with evenly spaced contact zones that are linked to the common pin C as well as two additional separate contact pins A and B. When the disc begins to rotate step by step, pins A and B will make contact with the common pin, resulting in the generation of two square wave output signals. If we simply count the pulses of the signal, we can use either of the two outputs to determine the rotated position.
